About PlainStoneHome

A reference resource on restoring and maintaining historic buildings in Poland.

What this site covers

PlainStoneHome focuses on the practical and legal aspects of caring for historic property in Poland. The content addresses three broad areas: the repair of external stone and brick facades, the conservation of historic interiors and their original construction elements, and the regulatory framework that governs works on registered monuments.

Poland has a significant stock of historic buildings — from mediaeval town houses (kamienice) to 19th-century manor houses and early 20th-century tenements. Many of these buildings are listed at national or local level, creating specific obligations for owners and contractors.

Editorial approach

Articles on this site are written in an informational style. The aim is to present factual material in plain language, with enough technical detail to be useful for property owners, architects, and contractors who are new to conservation work in Poland.

Where Polish law or administrative procedures are described, the relevant legal act is cited. Where conservation techniques are discussed, the underlying reasoning is explained rather than just listing instructions.

No article on this site constitutes legal or professional advice. For any specific project, the relevant voivodeship monument conservator (Wojewódzki Konserwator Zabytków) is the primary authority.
